A disciplinary panel has officially dismissed Suphat Saguandeekul, former deputy chief of the Intellectual Property Department, for stealing paintings from a Japanese hotel in January, but he retains his medical welfare and pension benefits. Dismissal saved his medical welfare and pension, he said. The committee did not accept Mr Suphat's explanation that he had committed the crime because he was dissatisfied with the service at the hotel. Mr Suphat was arrested after stealing three paintings worth about ¥15,000 (about 4,600 baht) from a hotel's corridors in Japan while on an official trip there in January. He was released from detention in Japan after he paid damages to the hotel and admitted to the theft.
